Pottery

The pottey project employed two qualified potters who in turn trained for free 12 youths among them former drug addicts, orphans and a number who lacked fees to continue school. The stock of pottery rapidly grew and we participated in exhibitions. This was in an effort to get the group known and eventually get sponsors to help us go forward and provide for more youth. The center was unable to take more than 12, although many more wanted to join, because of lack of marketing and exposure of their works which stifled sales. This project enabled a good number of youths to acquire some skills that gave them the possibility of earning a living and bettering their lives and also their families. The pottery centre is able to produce 60 pieces of pottery a day. In the village it's impossible to feed all the orpahns nor clothe all the street children. This is our way of empowering with skills those who accept to come so they can earn bread.

We saw a drop in petty crime because the youth were engaged in something that was keeping them occupied and giving them a sense of being useful to the society. They could bring food home on a daily basis, provide school fees for their siblings and look forward to a brighter future.
