Pig farming
This was the first project undertaken by Solongo Group. This project employed young men from the area. The men were mainly former street boys, matatu (public transport mini buses touts, drug addicts, alcoholics and former convicts. As rehabilitation was practically absent and job opportunities scarce these men just roamed the streets and as a result indulged in criminal activities. The pig project trained the men on pig farming so that they acquired skills to be able to work independently as pig farmers themselves and atthe same time they got a salary. This helped better the lives of their families and kept the men off the streets as they had an occupation.
